UKMi Liaison Group
Aims
The aims of the PIPA Liaison Group with UKMi are to maintain and develop effective working relationships between PIPA and UKMi and identify areas of co-operation.
Scope
The Liaison Group promotes good working relationships between NHS medicines information professionals and pharmaceutical industry medical information and drug safety professionals. It acts as the primary interface between PIPA and UKMi and provides a forum for:
- Sharing information about the activities of PIPA and UKMi
- Discussing issues of mutual interest
- Seeking resolution of any concerns raised by either party
- Fostering joint activities by PIPA and the UKMi
Not in Scope
The Liaison Group cannot make policy on behalf of the industry, the NHS, PIPA or UKMi, though it can make recommendations to the ABPI and to the PIPA and UKMi committees.
Meetings
The Liaison Group meets at least twice a year to discuss matters of mutual interest. Specific objectives and activities are agreed at such meetings, and members will agree responsibilities and timelines for meeting those objectives.
Chairing of the meeting and writing the minutes are alternated between PIPA and UKMi.
Links
The Medical Director of the ABPI is also invited to attend meetings to ensure that strong links are maintained between PIPA, UKMi and ABPI.
Communications
Minutes of all meetings are provided to the PIPA Committee and UKMi Executive in a timely manner, plus other interested parties by mutual agreement. An annual report will be provided for the AGM at the PIPA Conference. Information about the activities of the Liaison Group will be publicised in PIPELINE and on the PIPA website.
Background
The Liaison Group was set up in February 1997 as a replacement for the ABPI Medical and Scientific Information Committee (MSIC) meeting with the UK Drug Information Pharmacists Group (UK-DIPG now UKMi). UK-DIPG requested liaison with the pharmaceutical industry via AIOPI and the Liaison Group was established to meet this need.
