Guidelines

In 1994 PIPA convened a working party to create an industry standard for medical information functions. The purpose of this initiative was to provide a reference against which medical information departments can monitor and improve their performance in line with customer requirements.

The working party consists of representatives of medical information departments from a range of pharmaceutical companies, both small and large, from hospital based information pharmacists (UKMi), and also associate members by adoption where it is felt that their experience and skills will benefit the group.

Endorsements for successive revisions of the guidelines are sought from the PIPA committee, UKMi membership, and the ABPI.

The Guidelines displayed on this site should be used in conjunction with the suggested book list and industry customer questionnaire, which are also displayed.

The questionnaire is the copyright of PIPA and may only be used with its expressed permission (e-mail: pipa@pipaonline.org). Companies may find the item useful to audit customer satisfaction with replies to specific inquiries, but should avoid using it excessively as this might result in "questionnaire fatigue".
